We are working with this international law firm with nearly 2000 lawyers across 12 offices. The firm has grown organically over the years to meet the needs of their clients and now have offices in major business centres in Europe, the Middle & Far East and America.

They are currently recruiting for a Accounts Assistant. The Accounting Assistant will provide day‑to‑day finance and administrative support to the Europe Finance Team, primarily assisting with UK and European accounting processes. The role will work closely with the Accounting Supervisor – Europe, Accounting Manager – Europe, and wider Firm Finance teams to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial operations across the Firm’s UK and international offices.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing information for statutory accounts, internal reviews, and external audits.
  • Prepare routine journal entries and support the month-end close processes.
  • Assist with balance sheet, revenue, and expense reconciliations; investigate, resolve, or escalate discrepancies.
  • Support accurate general ledger coding and ensure adherence to the Firm’s Chart of Accounts.
  • Prepare periodic reporting as required and liaise with the Finance Systems team in the US to process updates or changes within the system.
  • Assist with UK and European e‑invoicing compliance requirements, including gathering data, performing reconciliations, and supporting the Finance team in meeting local regulatory obligations across relevant jurisdictions.
  • Assist in gathering data for VAT returns and other routine tax authority submissions.
  • Support preparation of documentation required for enquiries and audits from various taxing authorities
  • Assist in compliance with tax authority initiatives such as Making Tax Digital and other evolving requirements.
  • Provide support to the Accounting Manager and Supervisor, including assisting with projects, preparing schedules, and completing time‑sensitive finance tasks.
  • Support the team in improving and streamlining UK and European finance processes.
  • Incorporate the use of AI‑enabled tools to identify opportunities for improved efficiency across day‑to‑day processes.
  • Provide cover for Finance team members during absence or busy periods.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities.

Candidate Profile

  • A-Levels or equivalent qualifications.
  • Prior experience in an accounting or finance support role within the UK, professional services experience advantageous.
  • Ambition to study towards an accounting qualification.
  • Strong accuracy, organisational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Competent Excel user; comfortable working with spreadsheets and reconciliations.
  • Experience with financial software such as Elite or similar systems is beneficial but not essential.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence liaising with finance and non‑finance colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating reliability and accountability.
