The Partnership Accounting & Tax Assistant plays a key role in supporting the firm’s partners and wider finance function. This role works closely with the Partnership Accountant and Senior Partnership Accounting Manager on partner-related accounting and payment matters such as dealing with partner queries, organising partner payments, preparation of partner current account statements, and administering the capital contribution process. The individual will also work closely with the Global Tax Manager on tax compliance, queries and ad hoc projects.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the monthly reconciliation of partner capital account balances. Ensure new partner loans are arranged with the bank on a timely basis.
  • Maintain and update the partner benefits schedule for any changes provided by the benefits team. Assist with partner benefits queries and arrange benefit cover for both new and existing partners.
  • Prepare annual partner statements and manage their distribution to partners.
  • Prepare the monthly drawings files to be paid to all partners as well as quarterly interest and annual draw payments, and liaising with the relevant finance colleagues in overseas offices.
  • Ensuring all drawings are paid on time and that they are recorded correctly in the accounting system.
  • Handle partner queries relating to drawings, capital and partnership obligations; providing clear and timely responses.
  • Prepare and maintain internal process and control documentation, for review by the Senior Partnership Accounting Manager.
  • Liaise with the firm’s UK tax advisers in relation to payments to HMRC, and ensure these are correctly coded to the partners’ accounts.
  • Assist with tracking the firm’s permanent establishment risk by reviewing travel records and considering the position under the relevant Double Taxation Treaty.
  • Prepare the firm’s annual UK Short Term Business Visitor (STBV) tax filing for review by the Global Mobility Manager and / or the Global Tax Manager. 
  • Deal with regular withholding tax queries, including requesting tax residency certificates from HMRC and drafting supporting documents for review by the Global Tax Manager. 

Candidate Profile

  • Ideally a part qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with several years’ experience in partnership accounting or tax. 
  • Experience within legal finance or professional services is preferable.
  • Well organised and flexible, with a positive, proactive approach to work. 
  • Aderant or Elite experience is advantageous but is not essential. 
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel & Word. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy. 
  • A team player with an inquisitive mind and strong “can do” attitude, comfortable working with colleagues at all levels.
