TEAM STRUCTURE
My client’s recent expansion across Europe has begun the setup of a new office opening in Madrid, Spain, which is due to launch in the coming months, they are looking to build a full-service team in their Madrid office, with exciting hires to be made across all departments. This is a fantastic time to join a firm that is experiencing rapid growth and going from strength to strength.
As a result, my client is now looking to add to their accounts team and will be hiring a Management Accountant which will be one of two hires made for their accounts team in Madrid.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- To take ownership of management accounting, reporting and financial control for the Madrid office, supporting Partners, Associates and the London Accounts team with timely, accurate financial information and robust financial governance
- Preparation of monthly Management Accounts, including posting journals, accruals, prepayments and fixed asset accounting.
- Review of monthly bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Submission of VAT returns and liaison with external advisors where required.
- Management of cashflow planning and monitoring.
- Assisting Partners and Associates with financial and accounting queries.
- Assisting with the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasts.
- Assisting with the preparation of the firm’s statutory accounts.
- Audit support, including responding to audit queries and preparing requested schedules.
- Oversight of monthly payroll accounting and reconciliation of all staff benefits.
- Assisting with the review and authorisation of office payments where required.
- Providing cover for processing new accounts payable vendor requests when necessary.
- Oversight of the supplier invoice process, including coding and approval controls.
- WIP management analysis providing Partners with updates as required.
- Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with banking partners, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and optimisation of banking services.
- Supporting continuous improvement of finance processes and controls within the Madrid office.
- Acting as the key finance liaison between the Madrid office and the London Accounts team.
ATTRIBUTES / SKILLS REQUIRED
- Familiarity with Aderant is beneficial but not essential.
- Proven experience in a management accounting or controlling role.
- Strong understanding of month‑end close, balance sheet control and reporting.
- Experience in VAT compliance.
- Confident communicator, comfortable working with senior stakeholders.
- Experience in professional services or legal environment desirable.
- Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting systems.
- Proficiency in English and Spanish
- Part‑qualified or qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or local equivalent) desirable but not essential depending on experience.
- The successful candidate must be fluent in Spanish and possess a high level of proficiency in business English (spoken and written).
