Senior Legal Counsel – Reinsurance (UK & EMEA)

We’re looking for an experienced lawyer with a background in financial services to join a leading, globally connected legal team as a Senior Legal Counsel, supporting a dynamic reinsurance business across the UK and EMEA.
This is a high-impact role where you’ll act as a trusted legal advisor, partnering with senior stakeholders and collaborating across jurisdictions to navigate complex legal and commercial challenges.
The Opportunity
You’ll play a key leadership role in delivering commercially focused legal advice, supporting major transactions, and enabling sustainable business growth. Working closely with legal colleagues globally, you’ll gain exposure to a broad range of strategic initiatives and cross-border matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide timely, pragmatic legal advice to reinsurance teams
- Support client contracting and major transactions
- Identify and manage legal risks proactively
- Act as a strategic legal partner to senior stakeholders
- Resolve or escalate legal issues impacting business outcomes
- Collaborate with global legal teams across EMEA, India, and beyond
- Build strong relationships across business functions
- Contribute to legal process improvements and policy development
- Support cross-functional and strategic business initiatives
- Participate in CSR and pro bono activities

Skills & Experience
- Qualified solicitor or barrister (UK/Ireland) or equivalent international qualification
- Experience in financial services within a multi-jurisdictional environment
- Strong background in transaction support and reinsurance matters
- Experience with captive insurance (desirable)
- Commercial mindset with strong problem-solving ability
- Proven ability to collaborate across legal, compliance, and business teams
- Experience managing external counsel
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a global team
